Caldwell County covers approximately 430 squares miles and is home to approximately 8,815 residents. It is a predominantly rural farming area with nine small towns / communities spread across the county. The Caldwell County Sheriff's Department staffs 5 Road Patrol Deputies, 1 Major, 1 Detective, 1 Bailiff, 1 K-9 Officer and 2 office staff members.
The Road Patrol Division is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Deputies assigned to this division are the most visible in the community and perform the duties that most associate with law enforcement. Specific details regarding this position are listed below.

Road Patrol Deputy
Salary
- Starting Annual Salary: $42,588.00
- Regular Hourly Rate: $19.50
- Overtime Hourly Rate: $29.25
- Deputy Sheriff Salary Supplement Grant Annual Allotment: $1,200
- Paid in addition to regular salary.
Shift / Work Schedule
- 12 Hour Shifts
- 6 am - 6 pm or 6pm - 6am (2,184 hours annually)
- 6 am - 6 pm or 6pm - 6am (2,184 hours annually)

Job Duties / Responsibilities

- Respond to calls for service.
- Serve civil and criminal process papers.
- Enforce all applicable laws.
- Patrol all roads, highways and assigned areas within the county.
- Enforce all traffic laws.
- Prepare reports and maintain records for public, court, and law enforcement purposes.
- Conduct investigations.
- Conduct interviews, as necessary.
- Collect and secure evidence, as necessary.
- Make criminal arrests and book inmates, as necessary.
- Transport inmates as needed.
- Conduct security checks as assigned.
- Assist other agencies as needed.
- The Sheriff / Supervisor may assign additional duties as needed.
Required Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must possess a valid Class A Missouri POST certification.
- Must possess a valid Missouri driver's license.
- Must be able to pass a background investigation.
- Must be able to pass a drug / alcohol screening.
- Must be able to pass a physical fitness test if requested.
- Must be able to pass vision test.
- Be of good character.
- Possess excellent communication and public relations skills.
- Possess basic computer knowledge.
- Possess proficient report writing skills.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Missouri State Charge Codes.
- Knowledge and understanding of Missouri criminal and civil process procedures.
- Knowledge and understanding of common safety procedures.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize calls for service.
- Ability to follow directives; both written and oral.
- Ability to keep information confidential.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and lift / move subjects up to 150 lbs.
- Ability to react quickly and appropriately to various situations, including emergency conditions.
